Amstel Gold Race 2022: view the course

It is a real Amstel Gold Race. Twists and turns from start to finish, as you drive down narrow country lanes. There are often crashes and the favorites have to fight constantly to stay in front. The French presidential elections on Sunday 10 April have forced the Amstel Gold Race to change the date with Paris-Roubaix and bring forward the start of the Ardennes season.

Reigning champion Wout Van Aert, Mathieu Van der Poel, Kasper Asgreen, Tom Pidcock, Maximilian Schachmann, Alberto Bettiol, Dylan Teuns, Matej Mohoric, Marc Hirschi and Peter Sagan are among the favorites to win the first big race of the Ardennes.

Route of the Amstel Gold Race 2022

The Amstel Gold Race is 254.1 kilometers long and has 33 hills, while large parts of the course are on extremely narrow roads. The Bemelerberg is the last climb with 7 kilometers to go.

The Amstel Gold Race starts in Maastricht to climb the first hill, the Slingerberg, after 9 kilometers. This sets the tone! The course loops through hilly Limburg in the south of the Netherlands in a number of loops, zigzagging from one short and sharp climb to the next. Sibbergrubbe and Loorberg make an appearance twice, while Bemelerberg, Cauberg and Geulhemmerberg are included three times.

The steepest slopes in the Amstel Gold Race are grouped in the run-up to the final. Just after reaching kilometer 200, the Gulperberg, Kruisberg and Eyserbosweg follow each other in rapid succession. Although these climbs are short, they have significant gradients. That's gonna hurt! Especially the Keuterberg is notorious with a gradient of no less than 22%. And then it continues to the ascent of the Cauberg.

After the last passage over the Cauberg, the riders cross the line for the last lap of 21 kilometers. Just after the climb of the Geulhemmerberg - 1 kilometer at 5% - the riders turn right and race on narrow roads to the foot of the Bemelerberg. The last climb of the day is 900 meters at 4.5%. A little later the riders turn left onto the Franse Steeg and after Terblijt the route rejoins the wide road to the arrival place Vilt.
